How to drill a water well, the process seems to be very complicated. But literally it is one of the most straightforward methods to drill a water well using four steps. First – Identify the water table spot; Second – Drilling the hole using grinder, water, air; Third step – Casing the drilling hole; Fourth – Capping the water bore and connecting water motor. Water well is an excellent solution for water scarcity.
Identifying water table spot:
There is a multitude of methods. One – people use experience methods, or some people use technologically advanced detector machines where water tables can be spotted quickly and without much hassle. However, some people still prefer to stick based on personal observation and experience. There are no 100% certain about a method that is always true. So, it depends upon the individual choice where they want to drill the hole.
- Drill the hole where there are a lot of plants.
- Dig the hole where there is a lot of empty lands.
- Some people doing the whole with there are a lot of Sky about the land.
- Some people, even though the whole well, there are a lot of animals, sits on the ground. So there is no particular method where people would instead recommend you drill the hole, and it is upon on person to person.
Water well is drilled around the area of aquifer, because there are these water caves inside the groundwater containing millions of gallons of water. Water table situates along the mountain steep lines as per the scientific study, but many times it has proven wrong.
Drilling the hole:
There are two types of drilling; A rotating drilling machine, which is a giant machine diesel-powered machine. It has a hydraulic a giant hydraulic pump on it. A big hammer drill applies pressure to the drill bit pushing and fracture the soil or anything that comes in its path down the earth. Another method still used around here is the big wire connected to a giant bit slamming down and pounding into the ground and breaking up that rock.
Rotary drill uses gallons of water, and it has a bit to make a square hole down to the ground. It is angled once it gets leveled out. The drilling bit has giant grinding metals containing holes in it. These holes release water and compressed air. How to drill a well is not rocket science, but it includes several techniques to puncture the bedrock and water aquifer. African water scarcity regions use manual drilling using a mechanical tool innovated by Brigham Young University interns.
Casing the drill hole:
The boring machine starts drilling with drilling shaft at the height of 20 ft at a time using a drilling shaft. The drilling shaft contains drilling bit, spins the bit along with water and air so that soil is ruptured around it, making way for another 20 ft shaft. The entire bore machine has a truck with a crane on it with little thing that allowed cranes to hold the pipes vertically. This way, they’re able to pull the shaft up from top to bottom and reverse.
Once after every shaft of 20 ft each is drilled down, a casing is fit around the surrounding hole. It is necessary because the dirt and mud and all these in gravel could fall collapse and fill up this whole. So, we need something to keep all that stuff out, so the ground piece of a 20-foot length of steel pipe. For the rest of the feet, it is the same process viz, drill, spin, wash, and case. Some people drill for 500 feet or 1000 feet. The minimum any bore drilling company would ask you to do 300 feet to make sure their profits are even with the expense.
Mostly after 1000 feet, the drilling machine hits the bedrock, and the process stops when the rock is nearby. And at each state, casein and washing are required to make sure shaft is going back and forth along the vertical line without any dirt or mud. The casing is usually 2 inches in diameter.
It is necessary to avoid contamination of water with clay and dust. Otherwise, it will be overhead of the cost of excessive filtration of water. Borewell shall be used daily to avoid becoming dry. It is then a little difficult to grow the supply of water under aquifer unless and until there is enough rainfall. Otherwise, it leads to a water deficit.
Capping the hole and installing water motor:
Once the drilling machine is close to the aquifer, then the water will start to come out. After that, an entire block of casing must be installed right from top to bottom in the hole. W also need to make sure the drill hole on the top is safely caped. Installation of a water motor is mandatory because bore doesn’t have enough pressure to pump water out of the bore. Another reason to install a cap is to make sure by accident nobody shall fall into a hole or steal water from a water well.
Per the given steps, we can understand how to drill a water well to solve drought situations. We can also drill water bore next to our garden if suitable space is not available in farmland. The average cost of 500 feet water well is approximately $500. It cost per feet basis with an additional fee of cap and casing installation.
